ON WORK
Walk us through a week in the life of Bonang:
Monday: I landed back in SA after being in London.
Tuesday: I had a day off in Jo’burg. It was a beautiful day. I did my hair, makeup, nails – everything.
Wednesday: I had my COSMO cover shoot at my house!
Thursday: 5am flight to Cape Town. I went to Stellenbosch to shoot the marketing campaign for my new MCC, and I flew back to Jo’burg that same night on the 9.50pm flight.
Friday: I woke up and packed. Caught a flight to Mumbai, India. Landed in Mumbai and had a rest.
Saturday: I spoke at the UN Women #WeSeeEqual Summit on behalf of my foundation. Afterwards, I had dinner with my team. I didn’t really sleep that night. Sunday: 4am flight from Mumbai to New York.
One thing you learned as a panellist at the summit?
It was all about rewriting the rules of society. Whether it’s entertainment, finance or law – women are paid so much less than men, and it’s not only in South Africa. It’s all over the world. I learned that young women are facing religious pressure within societal constructs, public scrutiny and body shaming. But what I also learned is that the world is changing and women are being heard – issues such as sexual assault are being taken seriously, and that’s something I can commend the world on right now.
What’s your advice for speaking out about equal pay?
