To Mark International Women’s Day, Shira Suveyke of Online Retail Giant the Outnet Talks to EW About Life as a Successful Woman in the Corporate World, Her Top Career Tips and Noteworthy Essentials From Her Enviable Wardrobe.
Shira Suveyke has an impressive resume. After beginning her career in investment banking (she’s a Business and Economics graduate) she transferred her skill set to the fashion industry, merging analytics with her passion for fashion at the buying offices for Ralph Lauren, J.Crew and GILT Groupe. Since then, Suveyke has impressively risen through the ranks at THE OUTNET where she is now Executive Vice President and Chief Merchant for the high-fashion-focused online outlet.
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO YOUR CURRENT ROLE?
I started my career at THE OUTNET when the company was still in its early stages. At this time, the majority of the stock was transferred from sister site NET-A-PORTER, whereas today we buy over 90% directly from brands. The business model was really intriguing to me, and it was an exciting opportunity, as we had to educate not only the customer but also the global fashion industry. Luxury discount fashion wasn’t an engaging retail prospect then; it was hidden away in out-of-town shopping villages. We have worked very hard to redefine the discount model, offering a luxury service while showcasing a previous-season-yet-relevant product edit. The company had a real entrepreneurial spirit when I joined, and this remains now, seven years on. It’s an incredibly inspiring and exciting place to work!
