Did you know this integral element lying in your kitchen can also be used for natural beauty? Arya Chatterjee shows you how to make the most of this humble ingredient.
With top beauty brands promoting ‘natural’ and ‘organic’ skin care products, have you ever wondered taking a look at the plethora of products lying in your kitchen that could help enhance your natural beauty? When it comes to at-home remedies, Mum’s the word. And we’re sure your mother must’ve told you the health benefits of baking soda but you never really paid attention. What if we told you that baking soda could not just make a great batch of cookies but also help you achieve glistening smooth skin? But before we start on how baking soda could be the answer to all your beauty prayers, let’s take a look at what it exactly is.
WHAT IS BAKING SODA?
Sodium bicarbonate or more commonly known as baking soda is an ingredient omnipresent in your kitchen. Whether it comes to baking or cooking or even cleaning for that matter, this white powder has been the solution to women’s problems across the globe. But this small ingredient can also work wonders on your skin. As we’ve learned in school, combining baking soda with various acidic elements creates a chemical reaction, mainly carbon dioxide which helps raise cakes and cookies to fluffy deliciousness. In its core baking soda is nahcolite; a part of natural mineral Natron which contains large amounts of sodium bicarbonate. Legend has it that Egyptians used Natron as soap for its cleansing properties.
Most people get confused between baking soda and baking powder but to get creamy, smooth skin, make sure that you use only baking soda, and only the good quality one.
