Don't Let Diabetes Steal Your Joy

A LOW libido and vaginal dryness are just some of the side effects that are caused by diabetes. But having diabetes does not mean that your sex life has come to an end.

DIABETES EXPLAINED

According to the Diabetes Research Organisation, diabetes is a disease where the body loses its ability to produce or respond to the hormone, insulin. This then results in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose (sugar) in the blood. There are two types of diabetes – Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

TYPE 1 AND TYPE 2 DIABETES

The Diabetes Research Organisation states that

Type 1 diabetes occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and kills the beta cells of the pancreas. No, or very little, insulin is released into the body. As a result, sugar builds up in the blood instead of being used as energy.
