Number 13 Was Lucky For Me!

The number 13 may have an unlucky image, but for me it’s been very lucky indeed.

I wasn’t always lucky in love. I married for the first time when I was just 18 and together we had our kids Stacie (44) and Ewart (42).

I liked my husband but over time, we fell out of love and grew apart. We divorced when I was 29, and then I married again when I was 32. That marriage was all passion and no substance, and within two years, we called it off.

After that I never met another man I wanted to marry. I’d built up a career I was proud of as an accountant but felt ready for adventure.

Starting nearby, I booked a trip to Scotland, taking in the beautiful lochs and Highlands.

I then booked a flight to South Africa. Watching elephants swim across a river in Botswana, I knew I wanted to see as much of the world as I could.

Over the years, I saw the Terracotta Warriors in China, marvelled at Machu Picchu in South America and cried as I walked around a memorial to those who’d lost their lives in Hiroshima. I took a coast-to-coast tour of Canada and gazed at the spectacular scenery in New Zealand.

My friends used to say I lived such a fun life, surely I wanted a man by my side. There were times I thought it would have been lovely, but I didn’t want to settle for just anyone and was happy in my own company.
