If Golf Is Your Game, Put The Putt Into Your Backyard
If there’s one thing I am eternally grateful for, it’s that The Partner doesn’t play golf. Sure, he trundles off to a private nine-hole golf course where he’s the greenkeeper twice a week, but his weapon of choice is a hoe, not a golf club, and he’s never shown the slightest inclination to have around, or whatever it’s called.
Me neither. I love the golf course because it’s in the most beautiful setting alongside a river, but it’s far more fun to walk the dog around it than hit a ball.
However, there are those who’d kill for a nine-hole course in their garden and to them I say, how about settling for a putting green?
Quite a few visitors to the golf course have actually asked The Partner about this and he reckons it’s not that difficult.
You don’t even need a particularly large section because your putting green doesn’t have to be full size.
It does, of course, have to be reasonably flat, so if you live on a hill this is possibly not for you without serious excavation, retaining and who knows what else? And if you are surrounded by close neighbours with big glass windows and you’re inclined to send the ball into the air, maybe look at a pétanque court instead.
