Hey, Jude! CORO'S LITTLE CHARMER

Growing up in the public eye could turn any kid bratty, but not this tiny trouper

Hey, Jude! CORO'S LITTLE CHARMER
For young wannabe stars, you’d think landing a role on Coronation Street would set them up in a performing career for life.

Unfortunately, that’s usually not the case. With a few notable exceptions, most of the child actors who’ve landed plum roles on the popular TV soap have ended up being replaced as their character has aged. And throughout the show’s 61-year run, some roles have been recast numerous times.

But one young star who looks like he won’t be going anywhere in a hurry is Jude Riordan, who plays Sam Blakeman. Jude has been stealing scenes – and hearts –with his poignant portrayal of a youngster suffering terrible grief after his mum Natasha (Rachel Leskovac) was accidentally shot and killed.

And even before the heartbreaking storyline aired, the young actor was recognised for his talent by winning a National Television Award for Best Newcomer, making him the UK’s youngest NTA winner in history.

The lively 10-year-old – who joined Coro last year as the son Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) never knew he had – had displayed a talent for comedy as well as drama with his performances as the precocious youngster.

Jude was shocked when he won the award and because he was too short to reach the microphone, he had to be held up by the show’s host so he could make his acceptance speech. “Oh, my word!” Jude spluttered. “This is amazing!”
