Joanna's royal fave WHO I WANT TO SEE ON THE THRONE

Of her good friends at the palace, the beloved drama queen says one dignified duchess takes the crown
Joanna's royal fave WHO I WANT TO SEE ON THE THRONE

She might be an ardent royalist – and, for that matter, she’s TV royalty herself – but that doesn’t mean Dame Joanna Lumley is a fan of everything royal on the box.

In fact, the Absolutely Fabulous star has let it slip she can’t stand one of the top-rating Netflix shows in the world – The Crown.

“I know them all, and I know that’s not how they speak or what they said or did,” says Joanna of the members of Britain’s royal family portrayed in the drama, from the Queen and Princess Anne to Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

“People say, ‘Oh, well, everybody knows that it’s made up, but people don’t,’” says Joanna. “People think it’s the truth, so I decided not to watch it anymore because I have some loyalty, as one would to anybody they know and like and are lucky enough to be friendly with. I couldn’t bring myself to watch it.”

Dame Joanna, who turns 76 in May, has been everything from a top model to a Bond girl during her career of more than 50 years.

No character, however, has ever eclipsed her star turn as the vodka-swigging, chainsmoking, man-eating fashion director Patsy Stone in the now affectionately named Ab Fab.
