Do you make the same resolutions every January? Maybe last year you even stuck to new habits for a month or so, but then ran out of steam. It could be that you’re simply not flexing the right ‘mental muscle’.
‘The good news is that people don’t need to be born motivated to follow through with things,’ says psychologist Dr Sean Young, a leading expert in lifestyle change. ‘In fact, there’s no such thing as a motivated personality. Instead, people do things because of their context, by being in the right – or wrong – place at the right time.’
Keen to make your positive resolutions stick the whole year? These motivational tips can help trick you into changing with minimal effort.
Have an action plan
It’s amazing how many of us embark on changes with no plan at all. Want to cut back on snacks? Don’t leave your favourite crisps in the cupboard. Instead, switch them for some healthy, appealing alternatives – it’ll feel less like you’re depriving yourself.
