Jenny Zammit, 70, Jean Longhurst, 71, Sue Cook, 70, Carol Jones, 71, and Sue Wild, 71, have been friends for six decades.

What started as a friendship in the playground turned into something that’s lasted a lifetime, and they make sure they celebrate the bigger, more momentous occasions by each other’s sides.

‘When I first met the girls, back when we were all about 11 or 12 years old, we formed a close bond almost immediately,’ Jenny says.

‘But the fact that we’ve kept that bond as strong as we have for all these years does sometimes blow me away when I have a moment to step back and think about it.’

Over the years, Jenny and her friends have supported each other through relationship and marriage breakdowns, bereavements, tough times and redundancy.

‘Whenever any of us has needed a bit of extra help, they have known who to turn to,’ Jenny says.

‘It could just be a trip to the cinema to cheer them up, or a Tupperware box full of food. But we all know that we’ll never be alone when it comes to the tougher times that life tends to throw at us.

‘These amazing women are a part of my life. They’re like family to me.’

But as well as more difficult moments, the group of friends like marking the happier times together, too.

‘When it came to us all turning 50, we decided we needed to do something special,’ Jenny says.
