She’s currently caught up in one of Corrie’s most shocking storylines, with tears and drama aplenty, but actor Georgia Taylor, who plays Toyah Battersby, reveals that far from dreading the emotional scenes, she actually looks forward to them with relish.
‘There’s something quite cathartic about going into work and having a good cry!’ she laughs. ‘I feel great afterward. I’m like, “Oh, I’ve got all sorts out of my system!”
‘My own life is much quieter and I’m very grateful for that, but it’s fun to have the drama on screen. I’m never left feeling emotionally fraught.’
It’s 25 years since the stroppy teenager Toyah set foot on the cobbles of Coronation Street with the rest of her family. For 17-year-old Georgia, it was a baptism of fire – not only was it her first TV job, but interest in the new family, who were extremely noisy, disrespectful and reckless, was intense, with some viewers protesting about their arrival.
Since then, Georgia has clocked up 1,000 episodes and also enjoyed a lengthy stint away from the show, which saw her tackle a variety of roles, including Casualty and Law & Order: UK.
Surprisingly, despite her many years of experience, Georgia feels anxious ahead of filming big scenes.
‘I still get nervous. I think if you care about what you’re doing it’s natural to feel a certain amount of pressure because you want to do a good job,’ she explains.
