'I went on my gap year at a very LATE AGE!'

Actress Jane Horrocks reveals why she missed her family so much when filming her new TV drama, The Singapore Grip

Jane Horrocks has been working in theatre since she was in her 20s, starring in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice in 1992. So, when the 56-year-old actress was asked to travel to Malaysia for nearly two months to film The Singapore Grip for ITV, she couldn’t wait for her chance to finally have her ‘gap year at a very late stage’.

Jane tells us, ‘I went to Vietnam, Cambodia and Borneo, and I was really glad that I was able to go and see the places that my kids’ friends had talked about.

‘My kids never did a gap year but lots of their friends did, so it was just really great to be able to experience that first-hand, and it certainly didn’t fail to impress.’

However, being away from her playwright husband of nearly 25 years, Nick Vivian, and their two children, Dylan, 23, and Molly, 21, was very hard for Jane especially as the majority of the filming was done in Kuala Lumpur, a city that Jane wasn’t a fan of.
