Drew Barrymore’s life reads like the script of a movie – famous at seven, partying in nightclubs at nine, in rehab by 13 and emancipated from her parents a year later.
But while she’s now known better for a stellar career than her troubled childhood, Drew says it was her recent divorce that pushed her to the edge.
“I think I slowly unravelled,” she writes in her new memoir Rebel Homemaker.
The dark time came when her 2016 split from Will Kopelman led to Drew moving from her long-time home of Los Angeles to New York, where he’s now based, so their daughters Olive, nine, and Frankie, seven, could remain close to both parents.
“I struggled for the next several years to... make Manhattan a place where I felt comfortable,” she explains. “Then the pandemic hit. I think I slowly unravelled and yet I felt things I didn’t know possible.”
The 46-year-old – whose impressive career credits include acting, producing, TV presenting and running a makeup line – now believes she’s finally found peace.
