Jennifer Lopez shocked fans – and Hollywood insiders – when she spoke out in defence of boyfriend Ben Affleck last week, after he was slammed for seemingly shading his ex-wife Jennifer Garner by revealing he felt “trapped” in his marriage and it was “part of why” he started drinking.

“I couldn’t have more respect for Ben as a father, a co-parent and a person,” she said in a statement supporting the actor, who admits he came off as “the worst, most insensitive, stupid awful guy” after his remarks about the Yes Day actress, with whom she shares kids Violet, 16, and Seraphina, 12, and son Samuel, nine.

“Most of the industry expected J.Lo to be absolutely furious about Ben’s, quite frankly, sexist comments about his wife and mother of his children. So when she came out being fully supportive and respectful, a few people close to her buried their heads in their hands,” says a source.
