Every morning for seven years, the small community of Kendall on the NSW Mid North Coast has woken up with fresh hope that this will be the day the precious little boy in the Spider-Man suit will finally be found, safe and sound.
Shortly before 10.30am on September 12, 2014, 10km from the town’s quaint village and a stone’s throw from the local showgrounds, a three-year-old boy named William Tyrrell was happily playing in his foster grandmother’s garden.
BRAVE BOY
He should have been, like most wide-eyed youngsters his age, full of beans with not a care in the world. Instead, he went missing, the brave lad with the warmest of hazel eyes was gone.
Over the next five hours, a bunch of volunteers from the local area joined forces with emergency service workers, combing through scrubland, creeks and paddocks, desperate for a clue to where the little boy might be hiding.
He became the town’s poster boy for all the wrong reasons. As his “missing persons” flyer beamed across the country the hope someone may have seen something, in Kendall, local folk wondered if their tiny town with the biggest of hearts would ever be the same. “It’s been incredibly harrowing for the entire community – he simply disappeared into thin air,” one elderly resident shares with Woman’s Day.
