Ayodhya: The Story

A landmark judgement was made on the much-disputed and stretched Ayodhya case on November 9, 2019. The date is now etched in the history of Indian law. It was a five judges Supreme Court bench that was headed by the incumbent Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, expected to retire from his esteemed position on November 17, a week after announcing the judgment. The bench also comprised Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde who is the new designated CJI, Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice S Abdul Nazeer. These honorary judges put the centuries-long Hindu-Muslim Ram Mandir and Babri Masjid case to rest. The decision was unanimous and has been embraced openly by both the religious communities.

Over the years, there have been several violent acts, riot breakouts, and communal disharmony owing to the Babri Masjid that was erected by Babur, the first Mughal Emperor to enter and rule different parts of India. This judgment has certainly put a full stop to all the violence and riots surrounding the same question- Is the land for Ram Janmbhoomi or Is It The Masjid Erected By Babur?

The decision was made and the entire land in Ayodhya was handed over to a government-led organization that would handle the creation of a Ram Mandir there. But they ensured that injustice was also not done to the Muslims. They ordered five acres of land at a very sacred site in Ayodhya itself to be allocated for the building of the Mosque for Muslims.
