Times have changed and the tables are turned. Whether it is Women Empowerment or a whiff from the western world, the Indian woman is changing. She is taking stock of herself, paving her own roads and walking steadily on it.
She knows her mind, makes her own decisions and is not influenced by external guides. Whether this is going against Indian traditions -where a woman has to put others before her and sacrifice herself in the interests of family - remains to be seen.
Change is the only certainty in life and the Indian woman is just doing that, especially in the urban areas and in the present generation.
For many years now, most Indian girls have been brought up with the idea and aim of making a good and suitable marriage and living happily ever after. That has been every mother's goal for their daughters. The daughters happily toe the line.
However, boys have a different emotional quotient, a different point of view and in most cases, they have not read any Mills and Boon or any romantic book and do not know what their wives and girl friends expect.
"Why can't the men ever understand us?" grumble the ladies. "They just want good food, a suitable partner and as long as she does not grumble, they feel she is happy. They do not even wish to know what we want, what we think, desire and love."
A woman friend would most certainly understand sentiments, emotions and mindset. If a new bride says romantically, "I want to die in your arms," the husband, in all probabilities would say, "Why?" making her gnash her teeth and frown.
But another girl would know that it is the idea of heavenly bliss and not the end of life, which she means.
