Every Wednesday, my neighbour orders Pizza from I a popular brand because that day&#39;s offer is 1+ 1. Satisfying their adrenaline rush of hunger pangs they end up bingeing which has become the order of the day. Moreover, these days whenever we visit a restaurant or entry we notice that servings are getting bigger and bigger. We often succumb to Combo offers available at throwaway prices. 1 burger + finger chips + 1 coke and we buy all, eat all stuffing our stomachs with more than we need to. Recently, a popular chain of entry in Chandigarh came with the offer of eating as many pizzas as you can for Rs 399 and we saw youngsters eating like big giants with coke and fresh lime in return. Moreover many hotels offer a buffet with 7-course meals at 699 or so. We stuff and overeat without bothering about health hazards. In theatres also the colossal popcorn container in the hands of kids before the movie and the big pasta plates brimming with sauces during intervals are eaten by all. This feast must be costing them more than movie tickets. But they move with the latest trend to eat XL and wear XL.Never has the consumption been more conspicuous. We as consumers have been always opting for bigger meals. By getting more by spending less, we feel happy without bothering about how this is going to affect our bodies. In the mad pursuit of XL consumption aren&#39;t we moving to XL size in our wardrobes, becoming XL sizes ourselves? Even the menus at children&#39;s birthday parties are becoming elaborate and unhealthy. Children themselves decide the menu. My friend Sunita&#39;s daughter is in class 7th.On her birthday she made her mom note down the items that are to prepare for the birthday feast- Pizza is a must, she said, &quot;My friends love it.&quot; Without a king-size burger feast is incomplete, noodles with Manchurian, Chinese must be added and so on. Her list was long and her mother arranged it all. In the feast, I noticed that regularly being fed on an extra-large menu many children suffered from obesity.Obesity was not there in our childhood. We ate healthy, home-cooked meals. Dahi ballad chat and chana puri or dosa with freshly baked cake are used on the menu of our birthday parties. Outdoor games added to the fun and festivity as we ran a race with a spoon in our mouth, on the spoon was placed a lemon and we had those skipping rope competitions. Prices consisted of stationery which we loved - Apsara scented rubbers and Natraj pencils. Noone suffered from obesity. Of and on Quality ice cream cups used to be our treat. Restaurant visits were rare and overeating was never done.Nowadays I realise that serving in restaurants and eating joints is getting bigger and larger as they intend to vie with one another to woo customers who are taken in for a ride by them. At an eatery, I was about to ask why they serve such a big dosa but was cautioned by my better half who reminded me that there is a thin line between elan and gauches. And I need to be a sophisticated customer.Obesity is indeed becoming a weighty issue in our country where more and more people, of younger and younger age, are playing with their physical fitness and getting into rounds of &#39;O&#39; in &#39;Overweight&#39;Packaged food and beverages, from chocolate to cookies, from pizzas to pasta, from chips to coffee all are becoming larger and larger in size and volume, coaxing us to spend more and eat more. Such seduction and Dil mange more invitations lead to overindulgence. The avarice to eat more and overeat doesn&#39;t end and the journey from Large to Extra Large is becoming perennial with health hazards galore.
