The Dignity Of A Woman

Listen, Tanya! it happens to a lot of women! You are not the only woman who has gone through it. There is no other option than to forget it and move on.” It was her mother uttering the words and she just couldn’t believe it. Her rebellious mind asked her, ‘Why should I forget? If I stay quiet, it’s going to hurt me forever.’

She decided to go to the terrace. She looked at the moon. The crescent-shaped moon smiled at her. Tanya had always loved its crescent shape more than its completeness. She always wished that a few of her dreams should remain incomplete, just like the crescent moon. That would be the reason for living her life with a mission.

Her younger brother, Tarun, came up and asked, “Why are you standing in the dark, didi? My beloved jeejaji has called you several times on the mobile, and since you had left it downstairs, I thought of getting it to you.

” Tanya took the mobile from his hands clumsily. She didn’t wish to talk to Jitendra. Without understanding her dilemma, he teasingly said, “I know that you would wish to talk to him alone, and I am going down; but we are all waiting for you for dinner. So, come down fast!”

It was only six months back that she had got married to Jitendra. He had been her choice. He was a colleague and they had been good friends for a year. The handsome and intelligent Jitendra had floored her right from the time she had seen him for the first time, and she didn’t take even a minute to accept his proposal. Both their parents were also happy with the match and everything went off smoothly.
