The Reality Suicide

I wake up in the morning, freshen up, grab a cup of coffee, and flip through the pages of my daily. When I read an article how a 10th standard student committed suicide because the teacher reprimanded the child, or an actress commits suicide because her boyfriend harassed her, I flinch. The heart aches to know that such a young life is lost, but am filled with anger at the idea that suicide has become a solution to every issue, instead of facing it. We live in a highly competitive world, with the best being rewarded, and the rest being lost in the background. Everyone, despite their status and income, face numerous problems on a daily basis. Are we really entertaining suicide as an answer to this?

I have seen people suffering from severe clinical depression, many have tried to commit suicide. However, that is psychiatric disorder requiring treatment! Not everyone who is upset suffers from depression. When you fail in an examination, it is not the end of the world as you know it. It is just one obstacle in an otherwise long promising life. Has it become that hard that we can’t cope with such small problems? I wonder what people go through when they stand on the stool, tying a noose around their necks, awaiting their impending demise. Is it that easy to end one's life? It’s scary and shocking that life is diminishing in its value like a used car. I may sound inhumane for the comparison, but it is unfortunately true. The fear of facing the truth is somehow more difficult than consuming poison and ending one’s life.
