Especially during adolescence.
Often, we come across this proverb, "A man is known by the company he keeps."
Have you ever thought, why this phrase is so commonly used?
Why do so many people judge you by the people you hang out with?
Why are you constantly asked to choose your company wisely?
And, most importantly, does this phrase hold a very important message for us?
If so, then what is it?
The kind of people we hang out with, shape our minds and our future.
During the adolescence, we tend to hang out with people who talk about the same kind of stuff we do.
These people, directly or indirectly, have an effect on you. Whether or not, you do the activities your group does, you will still be labelled as one amongst them.
Therefore, it is very important for us to choose the right people, to hang out with.
One thing one must remember, while making friends, is that one should never try to fit in.
Of course, hanging out with people who drink and smoke may sound cool, one shouldn't hang out with them.
Allow me to list out a few possible reasons why one should not hang out with people, who drink, smoke and substance abuse:
As cool as it may sound, these people are the ones who come up to you and say, "There's no harm in trying once," and then, the poor little fellow like you, would soon fall into the trap of trying it out once, well, because, there's no harm – right? Wrong.
These are the same people who got addicted to it, because they all had tried it out, "once".
If you are someone like I, who is allergic to the smell of cigarettes, or is strong enough to not fall into the trap, there's always the second thing that can pull you down.
