It was late at night, 11ish I guess?. I was sitting beside my 11 years old humming lullaby, trying to send her to sleep. This was my daily task; I know she is quite big to lull to sleep but through this Maria and I got lone time to spend with each other. And during this &ldquo;making her sleep&rdquo; session she used to share all what she wanted to tell me after she came back from the school. She used to talk about her friends, teachers. Today, she was telling me that how she solved the question on the board that her class teacher gave her. This gives one immense pleasure drawing about her day. I feel content knowing that my child shares everything with me. We are buddies now. This is the best way to deal with the kids of this generation, you become their friends so that they share every bit with you and you stay aware of their activities.While I was patting her on her head today Maria suddenly turned her face to me and in the most sincere tone asked &ldquo;Mumma, why did you leave your job?&rdquo;I was a little puzzled as to why such a question struck her mind, but brushing aside these ambiguities I replied, &ldquo;Because I had more important things to do, like taking care of my darling daughter and you were very small then, so you needed somebody to be with you&rdquo;But you loved your job, right? She said&ldquo;Yes and I was also one of the most hardworking employees they had.&rdquo;&ldquo;Maa, why don&rsquo;t you join office again, how could you not do something you love?&rdquo; she asked it with a little sterness this time and I was shocked. I was unable to give an appropriate answer, but I knew avoiding the question won&rsquo;t ever work with my stubborn daughter. After all, she got this trait from me.She continued but this time more subtly. &ldquo;Ma, I know the answer, you fear that with your job, our relation might be in a shambles? And you won&rsquo;t be able to look after me like you do?&rdquo;. While I was figuring out my answer, she held my hand and said, &ldquo;Mumma, just because you love me doesn&rsquo;t mean you can&rsquo;t love something else&rsquo;&rsquo;To hear such honest words from such a young girl was unthinkable. I was stunned to hear these words and the sad part was that they had a base. They had an underlying honesty in them. All that night those words replayed in my mind. It made me realise how the rush of life makes us forget simple things. And how these children whom we find na&iuml;ve are actually more sorted when it comes to life. These children make us confront actuality. Sometimes, this confrontation is much needed.
