'MATCHLESS' MOTIVE! Phillumeny and Conservation of Birds

 The author brings to our attention an interesting hobby that could encourage a continued interest and support for conservation.

INTRODUCTION

Conservation of nature and natural resources has become the motto of each and every country in the world. Rapid, mindless and ruthless anthropogenic activities have drastically affected our delicate ecosystem to such an extent that many species have become critically endangered while others are facing the danger of being extinct from the face of the earth, for good. The modifying influence of the human species with its respective environment is becoming lethal and hence jeopardizing its own survival on planet Earth. In the light of these consequences, governments of every country as well as several nongovernmental NGOs are now trying to mitigate it by every possible means. Therefore, measured steps along with various awareness campaigns is the need of the hour. In this context, Phillumeny or more explicitly, the art of match-box collection, is gaining popularity among the masses worldwide as not only a part-time hobby but that which can become a medium for eco-literacy and bio-literacy.
