AN INDIA MODERN NARRATIVE

Designed by Anu and Prashant Chauhan of Zero9, this South Mumbai home exudes a contemporary aesthetic with Indianised accents

Overlooking the central landscape and recreational zone of a complex in a posh South Mumbai development, this project encompassed a 'jodi flat' as referred to in the city's real estate market. The design brief was exciting from the word go, as it came with a request to house several Raja Ravi Verma paintings in an Indian setting, but with a modern appeal. This was the kind of 'India Modern' that attracted the designers and which had to be carefully studied through the existing curios and art collection of the clients.

Even as you walk in through the entrance door, you are bound to experience the Indianness of this home. A handcrafted door with intricate details welcomes you to the internal foyer, which features a customised flooring of inlaid brass in cement tiles and Jaisalmer stone. This space, although gives you a full glance of the home, also lets you decide where you want to pause—with the kitchen being on one side, and the library welcoming you on the other side with a glimpse of the private garden balcony.
