Sculpture is the art of the intelligence. - Pablo Picasso
One will agree with what the legendary artist has to say about sculptures. A well-sculpted piece leaves you speechless. This art form is not everyone's cup of tea. However, many in India have made a name for themselves in sculpting. We look at those who are the shining stars in this art form.
NIHARIKA RAJPUT
If you look at the works of Niharika Rajput, mesmerizing is the word that comes into your mind instantly. This self-taught artist is creating wonders despite having no art background. She has done her graduation in English Literature. She is the owner & founder of PaperChirrups which she established in 2015.
"I specialize in building handcrafted intricate and realistic paper sculptures of birds and animals," Niharika narrates. "I use paper as my medium to build these sculptures. In addition, I also sculpt perches for the birds to perch on. They are from paper and wire."
Niharika is a wildlife & conservation artist and also a National Geographic Explorer. "As a child, I always loved being in nature and observing wildlife and simultaneously loved building 3D object. Hence, I amalgamated my love for wildlife and art to pursue a career in wildlife art. I also conduct various art for wildlife conservation initiatives in India and worldwide," she quips.
In her journey with PaperChirrups, she has been creating the said sculptures for around seven and a half years. "I mostly customize for my clients and have had the privilege of working with many prestigious brands, wildlife organisations, art galleries, nature interpretation centres and forest departments."
