THE NEW FORD Mustang GTD is a carbon-fibre-bodied, aero-optimised, track-ready 'technological tour de force' that takes the crown as the company's most powerful road car yet built.

Ford is targeting a sub-seven-minute lap time at the Nürburgring, which would put the hottest Mustang on a par with some of the best European supercars, including the Porsche 911 GT2 RS and Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series.

The new arrival has been designed and engineered in partnership with motorsport outfit Multimatic, which built the Ford GT supercar. The GTD is in effect a road-legal reworking of the Mustang GT3 that will race at Le Mans next year, and it has been named for the IMSA Sportscar Championship's GTD class, for cars built to FIA GT3 spec.
