AUSSIE RADIAL RACING LEVELLED UP AT A TRULY EPIC KENDA TIRES 660 SERIES EVENT AT SYDNEY DRAGWAY
ANDREW BROADLEY
WORLD CLASS

IT REALLY wasn’t all that long ago that a side-by-side 3.9-second radial pass would have an Aussie crowd in raptures. So when Daniel Szabolics and Wade Wagstaff kicked off proceedings at the recent Kenda Tires 660 Drag Radial event at Sydney Dragway with 3.57@209mph and 3.62@206mph respectively in the same pass, it was evident that the meeting was going to be one for the books.

Both of those ETs were under the existing Aussie outright radial record, which itself had been reset twice the day before in testing by Andrew Zada in his ProCharged ‘Boogeyman’ Camaro. Conditions were perfect, the track prep was on point, and the fans were in for a treat.

“It was next-level,” grinned Kenda co-promoter Scott Harker after the event. “When we got to the track at 7am, it was cold – just 1°C – so it was good weather for making horsepower. The track at Sydney is new and the surface is really flat, and the VP Lane Choice 7 traction compound we used is designed for radial racing. Then of course all the racers had their stuff together and they were swinging – it was the perfect storm!”

But it’s not just about the 3000hp monsters at the pointy end of the Outlaw 315 field at Kenda, because the series attracts an increasingly broad spectrum of racers, including the streeters populating the entry list for the Joel’s Garage Gear Radial Rebels bracket – a new addition for 2022.
