In 1963 Aston Martin was riding a wave of popularity, with the all-new DB4 selling strongly, following its debut in 1958.
Despite its success, strong competition from luxury sports-car makers across the globe, meant something new was needed to keep the Aston brand on top.
This came in the form of the more powerful Aston Martin DB5, which was unveiled at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, introducing a host of design, technical and equipment changes over its predecessor.
