"I really did think that Edmund Gwenn was Santa," said Natalie Wood, who was 8 when she played Susan Walker. "I had never seen him without his beard because he used to come in early [to put it on]." When she saw the beardless actor at the film's wrap party, "I just couldn't get it together."

"I have been the mother to almost 40 children in movies, but I have always had a special place in my heart for little Natalie," Maureen O'Hara said. "She always called me Mama Maureen, and I called her Natasha, the name her parents had given her."
