On August 3, the JRC Convention in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, became the epicentre of cinema as it hosted the 69th SOBHA Filmfare Awards South 2024 with Kamar Film Factory. In Telugu, Dasara, Balagam and Baby emerged as major winners. In Kannada, it was Sapta Sagaradaache Ello that dominated the awards. In Tamil, the honours were shared between Ponniyin Selvan - Part 2 and Chittha, while Malayalam cinema showcased a diverse range of winners.
Malayalam superstar Mammootty, in his acceptance speech after winning the Best Actor In A Leading Role (Male), expressed his gratitude. He also mentioned the Wayanad tragedy. The landslide, which occurred a few days ago, claimed hundreds of lives and has affected thousands more. He appealed to the audience to come out in support of the afflicted people. It was Mammootty’s 15th Filmfare Award. He won it for the Malayalam film Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, where he portrayed two characters, one who speaks Tamil and the other Malayalam. The film was of directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery. Earlier, Mammootty had insisted on lyricist Anwar Ali and actor Jagadish to sit next to him as he wanted to discuss cinema with them.
