AMERICA’S weirdest family is the Whittakers — an inbred group who live in devastating squalor in a tiny West Virginia village where they often bark at strangers and talk to each other in grunts, according to social scientists.

Documentary filmmaker Mark Laita first discovered the genetically damaged family living in an 800-people village ironically named Odd and made a 12-minute film titled Inbred Family: The Whittakers.

When he first met with the clan, “it was out of control,” recalls Laita. "There's these people walking around and their eyes are going in different directions and they are barking at us.
