THE famed backwoods banjo boy who wowed the world in the 1972 Burt Reynolds flick Deliverance is now struggling to make ends meet with odd jobs — and can’t play the instrument that made him a movie icon!

Billy Redden, now 66, played a teenage hillbilly with lightning fast fingers in a banjo duel in the movie but it was all a fake. His banjo playing was done by the late bluegrass string man Eric Weissberg, who stuck his arms through the back of Billy’s shirt, say sources.
