Bizarre comic couldn't escape child porn shame

QUIRKY Pee-wee Herman’s fictional tales all had happy endings — but it was another kind of happy ending in an adult movie theater that exposed the dark side of the beloved character’s creator, Paul Reubens, and haunted him to his grave!

Reubens, who died July 31 at age 70 after a secret yearslong battle with cancer, was rarely seen out of his bow-tied Pee-wee character, enchanting children and adults alike with his offbeat but wholesome productions — until he was busted in 1991 for entertaining himself in a Sarasota, Fla., porn theater.

Reubens vehemently denied he’d been caught in the act, but he eventually pleaded no contest to indecent exposure and served 75 hours of community service.
