Geri Horner cut a dazzling figure last week as she posed on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival alongside Orlando Bloom. The singer, songwriter, actress and author, dressed in her trademark white, was there to add another feather to her cap after reinventing herself again – this time as a Hollywood star.
The former Spice Girl was with her co-stars on the French Riviera to promote forthcoming movie Gran Turismo, which has been given an early thumbs-up from critics and is predicted to become a summer blockbuster. For Geri, 50, it is a first serious acting role and could thrust her back into the international spotlight, just as she publishes a new children’s book.
FROM THE HEART
“It’s a really great story,” Geri says of the film. “It’s inspiring; it’s real. It’s action but it’s unairbrushed and it’s got a huge amount of heart.”
Based on a true story, the film tells the tale of Welsh teenager Jann Mardenborough, who uses his skills at the PlayStation Gran Turismo game to beat 90,000 other contestants, going on to compete as a real racing driver in Dubai. Geri plays Jann’s mother Lesley, while Oscar-nominated actor Djimon Hounsou plays his father. Lily Allen’s husband David Harbour also stars.
