And last week, Greta Gerwig’s live-action Barbie saw London get a glamorous makeover of its own as its stars, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, walked a pink carpet, while landmarks including the London Eye, Nelson’s Column and the Oxo Tower were lit up to celebrate the European premiere.
Fans queued in Leicester Square from the early hours to see the star-studded cast, and they were not disappointed. Together with Margot and Ryan, who looked suave in aqua Gucci, were America Ferrera, Issa Rae and Dua Lipa, who paid homage to her own Mermaid Barbie character in a neon crystal mesh Versace gown.
HELLO DOLLY
Leading lady Margot, 33, meanwhile, channelled a 1960 “Enchanted Evening” Barbie doll in a custom Vivienne Westwood pink gown with a sweeping side train, white stole and opera gloves. It continued her tradition of wearing similar looks to her Mattel toy alter ego at each of the film’s premieres.
“I’m having so much fun right now getting to reference different Barbies on the red carpet for every city we go to with this movie,” says the Australian actress. “I’m really happy that everyone seems to be getting such a kick out of it, too.”
Sharing behind-the-scenes secrets, Margot adds that a pre-filming Barbie-themed sleepover was to thank for the cast getting on so well.
