INFILTRATING U.S. NAVY AS UNDECLARED WAR HEATS UP

CHINESE spies made off with a mother lode of American military secrets after bribing two trusted U.S. Navy sailors to betray their oaths and pilfer key intelligence about ships, troop movements and even a large-scale naval exercise in the Pacific, federal investigators charge.

American spy catchers say Petty Officer Wenheng Zhao and machinist’s mate Jinchao Wei were caught passing along intelligence to Beijing agents operating in the U.S. between 2021 and this year.
