MADONNA’S maniacal efforts to remain forever young and relevant backfired when she was left fighting for her life in a New York hospital with a killer bacterial infection, showbiz insiders say.

The increasingly Immaterial Girl, whose 2019 Madame X Tour was a bust, was pushing herself to the brink with a punishing 12-hour-a-day rehearsal and workout schedule to prep for her next tour.

Meanwhile, sources say the 64-year-old fading star felt compelled to maintain her illusion of agelessness, with nip/tucks and burning the candle at both ends in an attempt to keep up with much younger celebs on the New York nightlife scene.
