'You do feel very emotional - in a good way'

Friends and family rallied round Kate Garraway as she was awarded an MBE for her services to broadcasting, journalism and charity at Windsor Castle last week.

As the Good Morning Britain presenter’s husband Derek Draper proudly watched from the sidelines, Prince William presented Kate, 56, with the prestigious accolade.

Speaking about receiving the award, Kate said, “It’s an incredible thing because I definitely don’t feel I deserve it, but it is something very special.

“It’s also lovely for my mum and dad [Gordon and Marilyn], and for Derek to be here with the children [Darcey and William]. I didn’t think it would be, but you do feel very emotional – in a good way.”

Kate, who is rarely pictured out with her husband since he became critically ill with Covid in March 2020, admitted it was “amazing” that he was able to share her special moment.
