It’s New Year’s Eve, Faye Brookes has just finished panto and her boyfriend Iwan Lewis is determined to throw her off the scent, because after just three months together he’s planning to pop the question.
Rummaging through her wardrobe for the perfect outfit, the former Coronation Street actress has an inkling a proposal is coming (he’s been hinting – and asking – for a while) but to deter her suspicions, Iwan says, “Just put your wellies on!”
The couple are heading to a group fireworks display in the Cotswolds, again another decoy from Iwan. Upon returning to their home in Cirencester, he proceeds to ask Faye to make a Happy New Year’s video message for friends, before she turns around in their kitchen at the stroke of midnight to find her boyfriend on bended knee. Seeing Iwan clutching a “Will you marry me?” handwritten note and a platinum halo ring, Faye goes into shock.
“It’s making my heart pound now because I still can’t believe we’re getting married,” the 35-year-old tells OK! as she reminisces. “It’s still sinking in for me. He took my breath away and I did get emotional. I never thought I would get my happy ending and I think we’ve waited this long to get our happy ending and it turned out to be the guy who was there the whole time.
“I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, I can say that from the bottom of my heart. It’s a gut thing too. I’m not questioning anything.”
