As she gazes down at the precious bundle in her arms, Lucy Fallon looks like she can hardly believe her little boy is real. The journey to parenthood for the former Coronation Street star and her boyfriend, footballer Ryan Ledson, wasn’t an easy one – so they are all the more grateful for their son’s safe arrival on 30 January.
The delighted couple invited OK! to their West Lancashire home to share a glimpse into life as a family of three, and reveal the obstacles they had to overcome to become parents. Throughout our shoot, the besotted pair can hardly take their eyes off the newborn, who they exclusively reveal is named Sonny Jude.
Lucy – who played Bethany Platt in the ITV soap between 2015 and 2020 – admits there’s no particular meaning behind the name. Rather, it’s one of the few monikers she and Ryan could agree on!
She says, “I kept adding names to a list. I liked a lot of names that Ryan didn’t. Some were a bit out there, like ‘Fox’.”
Preston North End midfielder Ryan – who strokes sleeping Sonny’s head throughout our interview – laughs that as a Scouser, there’s “no chance” his son would end up with a quirky name. “He’d get ribbed non-stop!” he says. “But as the pregnancy progressed, we were calling him Sonny.”
Lucy adds the name they had for a girl – Honey – has been shelved because, having a Pomeranian pup called Sushi, it would sound like they had two dogs!
