Over the past decade sustainability has been something the fashion industry hasn’t been able to ignore. Shockingly, the industry accounts for between 5% and 10% of global gas emissions – and 350,000 tonnes of wearable clothing end up in landfill each year in the UK.
Now, though, as a result of a growing demand for greater sustainability, many brands are appealing to the eco-conscious market, whether through rental and repair services, in-store recycling or by using more ethical production methods.
But what does it mean for a brand to be considered sustainable – and who is leading the way?
Here are the three fashion brands we love that proudly keep sustainability at their core…
FATFACE
British lifestyle brand FatFace is one of the more affordable names leading the way, and offers collections for the whole family.
Sustainability is carefully considered at every point of the brand’s production process, so is “at the heart” of what it does. FatFace joined the Ethical Trade Initiative in 2008 with its sustainability strategy focusing on not only the product, but also the planet and community.
Its latest collection includes a collaboration with the National Forest as part of a groundbreaking 75-year partnership with the charity – and a celebration of its long-term commitment to sustainability.
