On Monday, the King received a traditional Maori greeting – the hongi – during a visit to a military training site in Wiltshire. He pressed noses and foreheads with a New Zealander training with a contingent of Ukrainian recruits.

The mission – involving British and international partner forces – delivers five weeks of basic combat training to Ukrainian recruits. King Charles praised their efforts, telling a senior officer, “I don’t know how you do it. I am full of admiration.” Many of the recruits are civilians who have no prior military experience. On Wednesday, the King visited The Felix Project in Poplar to recognise the staff, volunteers and partner organisations who work to provide meals to some of London’s most vulnerable people.
