Reality shows might be best known for their bombshells, bust-ups and controversial characters, but at this year’s National Reality TV Awards, it was all about the glitz and glamour. Some of the biggest names on the small screen took to the red carpet at Porchester Hall in London on Wednesday 31 July to celebrate the best moments from reality TV over the last 12 months.
TOWIE stars and Made In Chelsea favourites scooped up sought-after gongs during the star-studded event, which aims to recognise and celebrate the diversity and creativity within the reality TV genre. But it was Love Island that was the big winner at the 13th annual ceremony, claiming Best Entertainment Show plus Best TV Presenter for host Maya Jama.
The most coveted award – Celebrity Personality of the Year – went to Gemma Atkinson for her appearance on Gemma And Gorka: Life Behind The Lens, while My Mum, Your Dad took home the gong for Best Dating Show. The Apprentice won Best Reality Competition Show, and its host Lord Alan Sugar was awarded Best Reality TV Judge.
The Chase won Best Game Show and Good Morning Britain was awarded Best News Programme, while Made In Chelsea and The Real Housewives Of Cheshire won jointly for Best Reality Non-Competition Show.
The night was broadcast live on VooVix TV, but OK! was also there catching up with all the stars behind the scenes. We chatted to Demi and Frankie Sims – cousins of Love Island’s Joey Essex – who dubbed his stint on the show “TV gold”.
