Glamorous dresses, strawberries and cream and world-class tennis, it can only mean one thing – it’s Wimbledon time. And the A-Listers were out in force to attend the first matches of the 2024 tournament in south-west London.
Actors, sports stars and all-round national treasures descended on The All England Lawn Tennis Club to enjoy an up-close glimpse of the sporting action. Former professional footballer David Beckham was suited and booted for the annual event days before his 25th wedding anniversary, and was mobbed by adoring fans as he headed to the Royal Box to watch defending champion Carlos Alcaraz go up against Mark Lajal.
Becks, who wore a grey Boss suit with a bronze tie, was accompanied by his mum Sandra on the first day of the competition, while singers Katherine Jenkins and Jamie Cullum and Pointless host Alexander Armstrong joined him in the coveted seating area.
“One of my favourite sports events of the year – always love being at Wimbledon,” David told his Instagram followers as he shared his joy at being there.
Later on, at Emma Raducanu’s match, David was seen conversing with wildlife presenter Sir David Attenborough as the two cheered on the young British player on Centre Court. Sir David received a standing ovation from the crowd when he entered the court, seemingly in recognition of his many decades of conservation work – a great honour that was, of course, well deserved.
