Lucy Beaumont has described herself as a "small, feral woman", and while that might be true, her trademark northern wit and no-holds-barred comedy style have made her an adored comic.
The Hull comedian spent over a decade as one-half of the Richardson comedy pairing, starring with her ex Jon Richardson in the hugely successful Dave series Meet The Richardsons (which she co-wrote), and presenting Jon & Lucy's Odd Couples on Channel 4.
But as of April this year, she's no longer strictly part of that duo professionally or personally and is powering ahead on her own path, which now includes a podcast with a former Taskmaster co-competitor, and her solo Lucy Beaumont Live stand-up tour.
She's also just celebrated her 41st birthday and, given all that's happened since she entered her forties, we wonder if she feels any different?
"I don't feel any different really, just a bit angrier and not willing to take any s**t from anyone," she laughs.
Lucy is far from a newcomer on the scene, although her profile has rocketed in recent years, so we can understand her lack of tolerance for nonsense. This year marks 10 years since she was nominated for the Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and 12 years since she was won the BBC New Comedy Award.
But Lucy says it was her more recent Bafta-nominated role in the mockumentary-style Meet The Richardsons that put her on many people's radars.
"Meet The Richardsons really changed things for me," she tells OK! when we catch up with her on a tour break.
"That's when I really noticed a change." But it's clear that despite the TV success, her heart lies in stand-up.
