Good Morning Britain's Charlotte Hawkins on her love for her work and how classical music can calm pets

When I look at some people and they hate their job, I feel sorry for them'

With such a busy schedule — one where the working day kicks off at a brutally early 2.45am to be exact — it’s a wonder Charlotte Hawkins still has the energy to be one of the bubbliest presenters on TV. Yet, as the person who delivers the news on Good Morning Britain while the nation is waking up, the 49-year-old admits she sees her job as a “privilege”.

Having a great relationship with her colleagues, Charlotte acknowledges, is a key ingredient in that mix. And thankfully for Charlotte, her GMB co-stars are always there for one another.

“The sad thing is, we all work at different times, so the rare time we’re all in the same room together is usually at events,” Charlotte, who joined the news panel in 2014, tells OK! during our exclusive chat.

“We all attended the Pride Of Britain Awards, which was lovely. It gave us a chance for a proper catch-up. The one thing I really love about GMB is the mix of people, everyone brings something different to the table. I genuinely love working with them.”

It’s no wonder the hosts struggle to find the time to catch up, but as one of the most emotional times of the year approaches, Charlotte reassures us that she and the team will be there to support co-host Kate Garraway.

Kate lost her husband of 19 years, Derek Draper, in January following his devastating four-year battle with Covid-19, and this will be the first Christmas she faces without him, while their children, 18-year-old Darcey and 15-year-old Billy, will be without their beloved father.

But Charlotte says that Kate is “surrounded by love” and knows they’re “all there to support her”.

“Kate has spoken about the fact that this year will be about making new family memories and traditions. That’s what Christmas is all about, isn’t it? It’s about finding a way to move forward and although things are never going to be the same, we’ll be thinking about her this Christmas.”
