Her manager, Will Selby, confronts her with an empty vodka bottle. “Did you drink this all today?” he demands. The 59-year-old offers a weak, “Yes,” then rethinks and snaps, “No!” Later, she pleads to the camera, “We all drink, why can’t I?”
It’s just one chilling moment in the four-plus-hour doc that some are calling exploitative or simply a trainwreck. Intended to show Wendy’s comeback from the 2022 cancellation of The Wendy Williams Show, instead cameras caught a woman lost, alone and in a downward spiral (Wendy’s diagnosis of aphasia and frontotemporal dementia was announced the day before the show aired). With a court-ordered guardianship that froze her assets, a staff that seems willing to push their obviously ill boss and family prevented from seeing her, the question remains, can anyone help Wendy?
