Giyani - Land Of Blood Season 2 Mondays-Wednesdays (from Monday 6 February) SABC2 (*192) 21:30
Giyani season 1 brought us banana drama. Season 2 was all about those game lodge dodgers. And as season 3 approaches, court is in session as Giyani brings in a new family. Years ago Solani Khoza (Lesley Musina) fled Giyani to become a hotshot lawyer in Johannesburg, leaving his big sister Mambeku (Nsuku Baloyi) to raise his three children. Now Solani is returning to restore his honour, and his Joburg wife Pele (Bokang Phelane) is walking into this emotional warzone with him.
We rang up Bokang to gossip about Pele's first impressions of Giyani and how a boss babe can make herself at home in Mambeku's kingdom and a house so beige you'll feel like you've slipped into a pot of mabele porridge.
TOO FLASHY FOR THE FARM
Peacocking Pele is absurdly out of her element in Giyani. "Pele is in her early 30s. She's from Bloemfontein originally and she moved to Joburg in order to hustle - first as one of those grocery store promoters selling deodorant, then she moved into club promotions and she built that into managing clubs that rich people go to," says Bokang. "Aesthetics have always been everything. She's gotten past her self-perceived limitations by letting her aesthetic push through any confidence that she has," explains the actress. "And Solani is top tier in the legal sense. In order for her to have attracted such a top-tier man, she had to show ambition... but the basics first. She had to doll up and do all the things and prove to him that she's worth his time."
