<p>After a quick stopover in Sydney, Nicolas Cage, accompanied by his wife, actress Riko Shibata, and their daughter August, 1, touched down in Perth ahead of filming his new role in the thriller <em>The Surfer,</em> helmed by director Lorcan Finnegan, in and around Margaret River. According to <em>The Hollywood Reporter</em>, the film centres around Cage&rsquo;s character returning to his home beach after many years in the US, only to be confronted by a group of territorial surfers.</p>

<p>In August, the ABC reported film producers had sent out a casting call looking for locals. &ldquo;We are looking for kids who are really confident with a bit of &lsquo;attitude&rsquo; &hellip; we see them riding their BMXs delivering beer and generally causing trouble around town,&rdquo; the call-out said.</p>
