She was practising singing when her cousins yelled, "Come on, Becky, we all are going away to the big south! It's time!" Becky waved at them; she couldn't decide.
She had so much practice to do. And the migration-swim took all her time, energy and focus.
Her cousin, Ponty whale, laughed, "We are humpback whales. We always go south in the summers together as a pod to the
Antarctica waters for the crunchiest krill in the ocean!"
Thinking of crunchy krill and not wanting to be left alone, Becky quickly stuffed all her songbooks in a big backpack for the long migration journey to Antarctica.
Ponty laughed, "Race you to the surface!"
Becky and Ponty raced to the ocean's surface to throw spouts. They playfully sprayed each other for a while. They then ran to join their family pod for the long migration swim.
They swam for days, cracking jokes and racing playfully, throwing water spouts on the surface while they took breaks.
Days turned into weeks. After their long journey, the humpback whales' pod reached the Antarctic Ocean's southern warm waters.
There was plenty of food there.
They competed with each other to finish the krill faster. Several more humpback whale families had migrated from different parts of the world's oceans. While the rest of the family enjoyed meeting other whales, Becky decided to explore the southern waters independently.
She quietly drifted and swam away further to the east. She knew the east direction the Sun rises in the east! Before she realised it, she was caught in a big wave and lost amidst coral reefs.
She found an opening and went inside.
"Am I inside a cave?" Becky wondered.
As Becky swam further, a vast hall appeared, like a giant coral cap. There were many round coral stools to sit on the side of the walls.
